Most people have this basic idea in their head of what the average looking normal piece of Laredo or Port Perry real estate property looks like. The house they have in their mind has a roof, a ground floor and a basement. The solid three structure home. Some homes will have more than one floor but they are all pretty much the same: roof, main floor(s), and basement.
You can't really blame anyone for thinking any differently. It's what we've grown up with. Walk down any neighborhood that has Laredo or London homes for sale and you will most likely see some variations of what we described in all the real estate properties you come across. The thing is though that not all houses are built in that fashion. It's true.
Believe it or not, there are actually some homes that are built without a basement or a cellar! We kid you not! Just because the piece of Laredo or Richmond VA real estate property you grew up in and the ones you grew up around have a basement or a cellar that doesn't mean that they all do. In fact, in some countries, it's very common to have a home without either a basement or a cellar.
You might think it's crazy talk but it's true. Basement and cellars might have been a common occurrence in your piece of Laredo or Plano real estate property but they're not the norm everywhere else. Some countries would actually look at you being the crazy person for living in a home with a basement or a cellar. Building a new home in a country like Britain entails building a home without a basement or a cellar.
It's been like that since the 1960's, actually. Pretty much all new Britain homes built since the 1960's have been built without a basement or cellar because of how much more it would cost to dig further down into the sub-soil. That extra digging leads to a much more deeper foundation, as well as the need for waterproof tanking. It's just too much extra work and money so they build houses without basements or cellars.
Britain's not the only country like that. Australia and New Zealand are other countries where it's common for homes to not have a basement or a cellar. Your real estate agent in Thornhill or Laredo might advise against it but you might want to consider shopping for homes without basements. It's just a suggestion. |
